Days Supply Desired
At the Days supply desired field, enter the number of days of inventory you
want in stock of the items, based on average daily sales. The system uses
the days' supply desired and compares it to what you need to replenish
stock. If you want to have enough inventory available for the next 30 days,
enter 30 at this field. Any number from 0 to 366 is accepted.
Safety Stock Days
At the Safety stock days field, enter the number of additional days of
inventory you want in stock. For example, assume you want to have enough
inventory in stock for 30 days. However, just to be certain that this will be
enough, you decide to order stock for ten more days, so you enter 10 as the
safety stock days. This increases the days' supply you will be ordering to 40.
Any number from 0 to 366 is accepted.
Lead Time Days
At the Lead time days field, enter the number of days it usually takes the
vendor to deliver your order to you. Any number from 0 to 366 is accepted.
If a vendor's lead time is approximately ten days, enter 10 at this field.
Using the previous example, assume you have indicated that you want a
30-day supply of inventory and an additional 10 days of stock as a buffer, for
a total of 40 days of stock. Including the vendor's lead time of 10 days, you
would actually be ordering stock for 50 days.
After accepting the item history criteria information, the Period Weighting
window opens requiring you to indicate the periods of history that you want
the system to use to determine the average sales or usage of the items to
report.
