Suggested Order Quantities Using Item History
Assume you are building a purchase order to replenish your inventory of
Porter Cable power tools and accessories. You select the Import Item Range
utility and enter the range of Porter Cable items you sell. However, you are
unsure of the quantities to order. By selecting the quantity option, Suggest
using item history, you can have the system determine whether you need to
purchase each item in the range and how much to order (based on past sales
of the item and a series of criteria you must enter).
For example, to order enough 4-½" Saw Kits to replenish your inventory for
the next three months, you can determine what to buy based on sales of this
item during these same three months last year or for the past two years (if
you retain item history on your system for that long).
Upon accepting the Import Item Range window when you have selected the
Suggest Using Item History quantity option, the Item History Import window
opens allowing you to indicate how many days of supply to have on hand
when you receive the items from the vendor. The number of safety stock
days, lead time days, and days supply desired are all used to determine this
information.
The safety stock days and lead time days are used in conjunction with one
another to verify whether the item needs to be ordered. The days' supply
desired is used for calculating how much to order. Before you enter these
values, decide how many days worth of inventory you want to have available.
As you enter a value in each field in the Item History Import window, a
running total is maintained and displayed in the Total days field, and cannot
be modified.
